Is it possible to match the paint color to the old one?

When the wall is scratched, dirty, or drywall repair has been done, a home owner is looking to touch . Many home owners try to color match the paint to touch up in the middle of the wall. In some cases it would be possible. One can cut out a small piece of drywall that has original paint on it and take it to the paint store to get a color match, but most likely it would take multiple trips to the store, as the first match will not blend in with the original color.
Paint fades over time, the walls get dusty, and the new paint applied will be noticeable regardless of how well the color was matched.
Another reason it is difficult to match the paint for touch up is the difference in the paint sheen!!!
